DATA CENTRES AND SECURITY

We take care of what is behind the server, too.

Our servers run in Hetzner's data centres in Germany and Finland. The data centre provides the physical infrastructure, power, cooling and network; we are responsible for setting up, maintaining and monitoring the server.

Operation includes daily backups, regular updates, access management and monitoring of the server.

    Both locations are in the EU, so the handling of data is covered by EU data protection rules (GDPR).

Responsibilities

Who looks after what?

A server is made of layers, and keeping it running takes regular work. The lower layers are provided by the data centre. The rest depends on whether you choose root access or a managed server.

Security basics on every server.

These basics apply to all our servers. With a managed server we also maintain the system-level settings.

    Only the people who need it

    You receive the access to your server. On Linux we recommend SSH key login instead of passwords.

    Reliable components

    The dedicated machines have error-correcting (ECC) memory and two NVMe drives.

    Daily backups

    We back up the system to separate storage every day. We keep the backups for 14 days and regularly check that they can be restored.
